Jujutsu Kaisen’s creator Gege Akutami set Gojo’s death in stone with a new comment about his funeral portrait!
Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen have debated the status of Satoru Gojo’s death in the manga, but a recent statement from the series’ creator appears to confirm the character’s demise. Jujutsu Kaisen is currently engaged in the Shinjuku Showdown arc of the manga, when Yuji Itadori and the remaining sorcerers confront what appears to be the ultimate battle against Sukuna. This commenced with the initial confrontation between Sukuna and Gojo, culminating in Gojo’s defeat by Sukuna. It is a subject of ongoing debate among fans.
Gojo’s defeat appeared definitive as he was severed in two and assumed deceased. The recent chapters have escalated the situation, revealing that Yuta Okkotsu has assumed control of his body, suggesting that Gojo’s return is implausible. Nevertheless, fans maintained optimism that it was feasible. However, the cover art for Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 26 reveals that series creator Gege Akutami illustrated it to commemorate Gojo’s presence in the series.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Is Gojo Dead?
In a specific commentary regarding the cover art of Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 26, unveiled during a recent art exhibition in Japan, Akutami disclosed that it is conceptualized as a death portrait for Gojo himself. “I motivated myself by declaring, ‘I will create a death portrait of Gojo!!!’ However, I feel compelled to ensure that Gojo’s colour illustrations appear impressive each time. I experience greater relaxation and make superior art when creating illustrations for Jump covers, for instance. Initially, I intended to depict camellia flowers; but, following Gojo’s defeat, I illustrated sasanqua resembling camellias instead.
Regrettably, it appears that from the creator’s perspective, Gojo is indeed deceased, with no possibility of a comeback, as evidenced by the creator’s provision of a formal funeral photo. Gojo was one of the most beloved characters throughout the series, and the permanence of his death is a topic of ongoing debate among fans. Although there is no expectation for his return, it is conceivable that Akutami may alter his decision in the future.
